Tim Miller’s Terminator continuation has dropped its first official picture, and although we’ve seen glimpses of filming recently, it’s nice to be formally introduced to the proper return of Linda Hamilton’s legendary action heroine.
Hamilton is joined by Natalia Reyes, who appears to be playing a mechanic of some sorts judging by the “Arius Motors” shirt she’s wearing, and Mackenzie Davis, who could perhaps be the latest incarnation of the Terminator, if those intriguing etchings on her skin are anything to go by. Recent set reports alleged there were scenes being filmed that featured Davis wearing a prosthetic to make it appear like a metal exoskeleton was being exposed under her skin, too.
In true reboot fashion, Terminator 6 seeks to bridge the gap between the old Terminator movies and the new by bringing in Schwarzenegger and Hamilton to pass the torch. To help with the rebooting process, Terminator 6 will ignore everything that happened in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys, making the new movie in essence a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Returning producer James Cameron is setting the film up as the potential first chapter in a trilogy that would center on Dani Ramos and the other new characters.
But really, Hamilton packing aviators and plenty of firepower is what you’re here for, and it’s delightful. Moreover Hamilton with shades and a goddamn shotgun is an aesthetic. The new Terminator is set to hit theaters November 22, 2019.
